Dear Families and Caregivers,
Today, we were delighted to host One Love Cultured Kids, an organization based in Montclair that celebrates diversities and differences in the classroom and greater community. Our students engaged in an interactive Black History Month celebration, including a narrative of experiences across the African Diaspora and highlighting Black leaders like Mansa Musa, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, even James Howe of the historical Howe House of Montclair. Students also watched tap dancers and drummers that moved in vibrant, traditional kente cloth. The highlight of the performance involved double dutch jump ropers who invited students and teachers to take part in learning a few fun tricks while jumping. We are so grateful to the Howe House for funding this amazing opportunity for our students and staff.
SEL Day at CHB: We will again demonstrate how a small act of kindness creates a domino effect with cereal boxes. Please refer to the letter from Ms. G for further details. Your child can participate by bringing in an unopened box of cereal. A regular box is what we will be collecting. Nothing gigantic or family size boxes please. All donated cereal boxes will be brought to Toni’s Kitchen after our demonstration.
ECO Action is coming!: We’re excited to announce our second Eco Action Week Eco Action Schedule, February 23-26, 2026, the Wind Derby! We’re inviting families and community members to join us during school hours to help with a fun, hands-on event that brings our lessons to life. We need your help to make this event a success. If you’d like to volunteer, Eco Action Week 2 – Sign Ups
Message from PTA ASE Committee: The first day of ASE classes is next week (February 23rd). You may send a nut-free snack with your child. You may also wish to remind your child that they are participating in ASE. All classroom teachers are provided a list of students participating in ASE, and students will be dismissed according to the procedure that caregivers indicated in Homeroom (i.e., pick-up, dismiss to aftercare, or walk home). Pick up is in front of the school at 4:25 PM. We hope that your children enjoy their classes!
2026-2027 Incoming Siblings – If you have an incoming sibling to CHB next school year (2026-27), please email Mara Mazur (MMazur@ by Friday, February 27). Please provide the name of the student, incoming grade and date of birth, as well as the sibling’s name. You will still need to register with the registrar’s office. This information is being collected so the registrar’s office can forecast how many seats will be available after siblings.
Family Skate Night: Join us at Clary Anderson Arena March 22 from 5-6:30PM. See the attached flyer for more details.
CHB Spring Fling, March 14: The CHB Spring Fling is our signature adult fundraiser, bringing our school community together for a fun and festive night out. Guests will enjoy great food, games, music, and an exciting tricky tray featuring fantastic baskets to win through a raffle—all while supporting important programs and initiatives at CHB. It’s a night to relax, connect, and give back.
